News - Afghanistan
Rais Khan Sendzai scooped the title of Afghanistan's national snooker champion when he beat his opponents in the Kabul Snooker tournament on Friday. Nader Sultani took second place.
Both players will now move on to compete in the 31st Asian Snooker Championships scheduled to take place in Malaysia from April 24 to May 3. Joining them will be fellow Afghan player Saleh Mohammad Mohammadi who is the defending Asia Snooker Champion.
"Saleh Mohammad Mohammadi who became champion in the last round of the Asian Championship has been elected for the Asian competition without participating in the competition between the top eight," head of the Snooker Federation, Mohammad Aziz Neyazee explained.
Athletes from more than 40 countries will participate in the Asian Championships – which is held annually.
In 2013 the Asian Snooker Championships was held in Pakistan. Afghan snooker player Saleh Mohamad Mohammadi beat his Syrian rival in the final round and for the first time in history brought the title home. Sadly the 2014 championships were scrapped due to budget constraints.
