Wahidullah Kalimzai, the governor of Kunar on Sunday confirmed that over the past several days at least 43 missiles have hit the border areas of Kunar province killing one civilian and wounding a nine-year-old Afghan child.
"It is very unfortunate to say that 43 rockets have hit several areas in Nari, Sarkano and other districts of Kunar over the past few days. The attacks have caused the destruction of several homes, killed one civilian and wounded another," Kalimzai said on Sunday.
"On behalf of the people of Kunar, I strongly denounce the attacks; continuation of the attacks will leave damaging consequences. We want the Pakistan government to put an end to the mortar and rocket attacks," he added.
The Pakistani military has been engaged in targeting Afghanistan's border regions over the past four years, but appeared to have stopped the attacks following the establishment of the National Unity Government. However, two months ago they appeared to re-launch the campaign – despite widespread criticism.
In the past few weeks, border provinces including Paktika, Nangarhar and Kunar have all come under fire from across the border.
