Nawa district of southern Helmand province has once again fallen to the Taliban, sources confirmed on Monday.
Sources said that Taliban launched their attack on Sunday night and took over the district police compound on Monday morning.
Ahmadshah Salem, Nawa district police chief, was reportedly killed in a clash with the Taliban.
Officials said that Nawa district has been under siege by Taliban for a month and government forces only had control of the police compound in the town.
Meanwhile Helmand residents criticized government for not having sent in reinforcement troops to Nawa.
This comes after Afghan security forces retook Nawa district on August 11 after it fell to the Taliban.
