Nangarhar police headquarters came under attack on Sunday night after a suicide car bomber detonated explosives, clearing the way for insurgents to enter the premises.
A four-hour long clash ensued between insurgents and police. All insurgents involved were eventually killed by police.
The attack took place at about 11:00pm local time in Jalalabad city the capital of the province after a suicide car bomber detonated his explosives near the entrance gate of the police headquarter and opened way to other attackers, a spokesman for the Provincial Governor, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said.
"There is no exact information about the casualties of the attackers and civilians yet. The clashes ended about 3:30 am and the police started investigations about the attack," he said.
The Ministry of Interior spokesman Sediq Sediqqi has said that five "terrorist killed" another was arrested and nine policemen were injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, officials of Nanarhar hospital have said that five children injured in the clash were being treated in hospital.
No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
