President Ashraf Ghani, who is in Germany after having had surgery on his foot, on Sunday reviewed the country's security situation via a video link conference with security officials in Afghanistan, officials said.
In a statement issued by Ghani's office, government said the president has once again emphasized the need to secure a better future for the people of Afghanistan and that "the final target of the National Unity Government (NUG) is peace with dignity in the country".
Ghani is also reportedly in contact with Pakistan government officials over security and stability in both countries and on the matter of peace will "leave no stone unturned in this regard", read the statement.
The statement added that Ghani also praised the security forces for their continued efforts to fight insurgents.
Presidential Palace sources also said Sunday that Ghani is recovering well following foot surgery.
According to them, the surgery was a success.
Ghani reportedly traveled to Germany last week and was accompanied by his personal physician. A senior government official said Ghani will return to Afghanistan on Thursday.
He injured his foot a few weeks ago while attending an event to mark World Olympics Day.
