Afghan Women’s Poetry and Visual Art Event at the Corcoran in Washington, DC

The Afghan Women’s Writing Project (AWWP) in collaboration with the Corcoran Photojournalism Program presents an Afghan poetry reading and visual art event on Saturday May 16, 2015, from 1pm-4pm at Armand Hammer Auditorium of Corcoran School of Arts & Design, 500 17th Street NW, Washington, DC.

The goals for this event are simple but bold—to raise awareness about Afghan women’s literary strengths, to showcase their unique imaginations, and to share their universal wish for happiness, peace, and positive change.

Afghan women will read from their own poems and writings and share their thoughts on why writing is an important part of their lives. Corcoran Photojournalism students will present the video and photo projects in response to Afghan women’s poems published in the second AWWP Anthology book Washing the Dust from our Hearts.
