In a qualifying tournament for the 2015 Brazil Olympics, the U-23 Afghan National Football Team defeated Nepal 2-0 at Azade Stadium in Tehran on Thursday.
The first half of the match ended with no goals, but when the second half began, Afghanistan went on the offensive, and during the 76 minute of the game the first goal was scored by Muhammad Khalid Erfan.
The game continued 1-0 until the 90th minute, when, in extra time, the referee awarded a penalty kick to Afghanistan after a Nepali defender made an illegal tackle inside the box. Said Muhammad Hashemi, Afghanistan's U-23 captain, took the shot and put his side ahead by two.
This was the U-23 side' first victory in the tournament. Over 8,000 Afghan spectators were said to have been cheering on at the game in Tehran's Azade Stadium.
Afghan players lost their first match against Palestine on Monday. Afghanistan is currently ranked fourth in the Group Three after two matches - one win and one loss.
For their third game, Afghanistan will face off against Saudi Arabia. The match will start at 3:00pm on Friday, in the Dastgardy stadium of Tehran.
