At least 22 Daesh and Taliban insurgents were killed in an ongoing military operation in eastern Nangarhar province over the past six days, local officials said.
In addition, 21 other insurgents were injured in the operation.
The operation conducted by the joint Afghan security forces, named "Shaheen 09", was launched in Kot district of the province to clear the Daesh and Taliban insurgents, a spokesman for the Provincial Police Chief, Hazrat Omar Mashriqiwal said.
"In the first day of the operation five Daesh insurgents including their commanders were killed." Mashriqiwal said. "One suspect was arrested and investigations are underway."
The forces also seized many weapons during the operation. So far no security force members or civilian casualties have been recorded in the operation, he said.
Dozens of villages have been cleared of insurgents and the operation still continues in the district, he added.
"The security forces received the support of residents during the operation," said Mashriqiwal.
However, the insurgent groups have not yet commented on the operation.
The operation comes after Daesh insurgents increased their activities in the Kot and other districts of the province.
